Hey, I’m Erik Contzius from Make Tech Better, Incorporated. What I’ve got is an answer to one of your questions: Do I make WordPress websites? The answer is “yes,” but it’s not the question I like to answer. Every client that comes across my desk will ask me about a website, and what I answer back to them is, “What do you want to do with that website?” Because sometimes, the best answer is not a website.
Case in point: I’ve got a friend of mine – this is a true story – who was looking to expand his business, and I said, “Have you heard of this thing called Thumbtack.com?” I don’t like to tell people just to go to Thumbtack, because it takes business away from me, but I like to make my clients happy. Thumbtack is a very cool place; you can sign up for free as a vendor. Whatever your industry is, be it you’re into lawn-mowing, you’re a painter, you’re a writer, you’re a photographer – you put up where you are, what your skills are, and then people search for you blind. And then you just pay to bid on their work.
Well, my friend who did this got five clients out of it in the first week. Shocking, and did it without a website. So you might want to ask yourself, “What’s the technology that I need to reach my clients?” Now, again, I don’t like to give away business, but if it helps somebody, I find that if I help them, eventually they’ll help me. And hopefully, this has been helpful to you.
Let me help you with one other thing. I’ve got a free e-book in case you do still want to make a website. It’s called The Top Ten Mistakes People Make When Building a Website and How to Avoid Them. I wrote it myself, thank you very much. Go down there, follow the instructions, and it can all be yours for the price of… zilch.
In any case, I’m Erik Contzius from Make Tech Better, Incorporated: A Human Touch in a Silicon World.
